Applikationsbericht [EN]: Comparing the Effectiveness of Surface Treatments using Imaginary Contact Angles

The surface treatment of dental implants shortly before implantation has attracted increasing attention. It allows to increase the implant’s surface energy, which also increases its biocompatibility. To measure the surface energy of a solid surface, measurements of its water contact angle are needed. However, most dental implants are ultra-hydrophilic, which gives them a water contact angle of 0° or below. To study these ultra-hydrophilic surfaces, imaginary contact angle measurements have proven a powerful technique.
